Lacing, also referred to as Marbling, is not well understood at this stage, Some believe it is an expression of the appaloosa or pinto gene but it has been seen in solid coloured horses with no white at all.

It can be seen from a young age or develop in horses as they age.

It can be seen in any shade from slightly lighter then the base colour to white.
