Silver Black/Silver dapple:

Black horses with the Silver gene are commonly called Silver Dapples. This can be confusing because these horses are not always "silver" and not all horses with the Silver gene will be dappled.

Also called Silver Taffy or chocolate taffy.

When a black horse has the silver gene… any shade is possible, with or without dapples. This horse may look anything from white to very dark slate with a lighter mane and tail.

Silver dapples can also be confused with grey horses, but unlike grey horses silvers do NOT grey out over time, they are born silver and remain silver - although their shade may change many times over their life.

Silver Dapple (pinto) Mare:

Wizards Hifaultin Lady

Sire: Silver chestnut pinto
Dam: Black

bred by Loadstar stud
Owned by Loadstar stud

This silver dapple filly was born looking much like a chestnut...
But at birth her skin was NOT a shade of pink like a chestnut foals would be.
Her mane and tail started to lighten off fairly early and her eye lashes turned silver.

By the time she shed her foal coat it was obvious her colour was actually silver dapple.

5 months

6 months

Until this foal was born her breeder was not sure if the sire carried silver or not (being a chestnut) - this filly proved that he does.
