Silver Chestnut

While you cannot see silver on a chestnut, it is still possible for a chestnut horse to carry silver and pass it on to their offspring... even if their offspring is chestnut...
for this reason (as with Bay) the colour may turn up in a foal that doesn't appear to have silver in its pedigree.

Note - a flaxen mane on a chestnut is NOT caused by the silver gene and does NOT signify that the horse carries silver - as silver DOES NOT affect red hair... it is caused by the flaxen gene.
